Chemicals used in hand creams have side effects which become visible over a period of time. There are some brands which claim to be 100% organic and vegan but these too have tiny traces of preservatives. The products which we build at home with the ingredients best suited to our skin type are always a catch when it comes to stress-free skincare regime. Our hands too need this special treatment because they are the ones who have worked from the day you entered into this world and will keep on doing so till the end. Being young is a blessing since it is a carefree life when the skin looks beautiful naturally, cell regenerate and there is no need to take care of the skin but that is the biggest regret we might face in our later life when premature skin dawn on us. Skin care must start from a very tender age and should not just restrict on facial care. Hands are a very important part of our body and they deserve extensive care. Our kitchen has some magical products to offer which might prove as a boon to the hands. Here are some hand creams which can be made at home without adding any harsh chemicals.
Cream -1
Ingredients needed
- Shea Butter or Emu oil – 15 ml
- Tea tree oil (essential oil) – few drops
- Lavender oil (essential oil) – few drops
- Almond oil – 120 ml
- Beeswax – 60 ml
- A heat-proof bowl
- Small pot filled with some water
- Spatula
- Hand-held mixer
Steps
- Sterilize all the equipments used in this process as any germ left behind might hamper the productivity of hand cream.
- Place the pot half-filled with water on simmer and put the bowl with beeswax, almond oil and Shea Butter or emu oil on it.
- Allow the wax to melt and incorporate with oil while stirring cautiously.
- Remove from heat as soon as the wax melts completely.
- Pour essential oils into the mixture and stir until the contents get mixed thoroughly with the right consistency.
- Store the cream in a dark and airtight jar.
- Start using once the mixture has totally cooled.
- Apply the cream before venturing out to work with your hands.
This cream is a life saver since it is extremely nourishing and can be used by people whose nature of work make their hands extremely dry and damaged. Farmers, gardeners, workers of chemical factories, drivers’ etc can use this cream to revive their hands. Apply it generously at night and sleep with a woolen glove. The next morning your hands will be extremely soft and supple. Even if you are using any other hand cream include this one too as the night time rejuvenating hand cream.
Here is another homemade cream with vegetable wax and almond oil.
Cream -2
Ingredients needed
- Shea Butter– 15 ml
- Essential oil of your choice – few drops
- Almond oil – 60 ml
- Beeswax – 7 ml
- Vegetable wax – 7 ml
- Distilled water – 30 ml
- A heat-proof bowl
- Small pot filled with some water
- Spatula
Steps
- Sterilize the equipments needed and also use the accurate quantity of raw materials to get the correct results.
- Heat the pan half-filled with water and place the bowl over it.
- Pour beeswax to emulsify with almond oil in the bowl
- Do not stir the wax, just leave it to melt and settle on the spatula.
- Once the wax melts, remove the pot and let it cool before adding anything.
- Carefully add Shea Butter and allow it to mix with wax
- Now pour the entire mixture into distilled water while stirring continuously till you get the consistency of a lotion.
- Incorporate the essential oil at this stage.
- Store in an airtight container and refrigerate.
- Apply whenever needed to relax your hands.
This lotion will have a gel like consistency hence it is bound to absorb fast without leaving any kind of greasiness on skin. Essential oil of your choice can be added to this lotion for fragrance but we recommend ylang-ylang, patchouli, lavender, tea tree or lemongrass which will very well soothe your senses and give relief to dry hands.
Here is one more hand cream including almond oil and coconut oil.
Cream – 3
Ingredients needed
- Almond oil – 120 ml
- Coconut oil – 120 ml
- Beeswax – 60 ml
- Rosewater – 60 ml
- A heat-proof bowl
- Small pot filled with some water
- Spatula
- Hand-held mixer
Steps
- The steps are almost same as we have done in the above procedures.
- Heat a pan half-filled with water on simmer and place a bowl on it.
- Add beeswax to the bowl and allow it to melt.
- When the beeswax starts melting, add almond oil to it.
- As soon as almond oil starts to infuse with beeswax pour in coconut oil too.
- Add rose water and keep stirring with the spatula.
- When all the ingredients are mixed together pour the hand cream into an airtight jar and leave it to cool down.
- You can also place it in the refrigerator and use once the cream hardens.
Always take care to use homemade rose water. Making it is a very simple process. You will need some fresh rose petals and distilled water.
- Clean the petals thoroughly and place them in a bowl.
- Add distilled water to cover the petals.
- Place the bowl on slow heat and let it simmer.
- Do not allow the water to boil.
- Once the petals lose their colour and become white, you can switch off the flame.
- Strain the liquid and store it in refrigerator. It stays fresh for almost a week. Use it for the preparation of hand cream or any other skin care regime to double the effects and get a radiant skin.
These hand creams can be used by people with sensitive skin too and it will not irritate their tissues because these do not consist any kind of irritants like parabens or sulphates. Start using these handmade creams and see your hands thank you a million times.
